The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports attends in this academic year the educational needs of a total of 286 inmates of the Murcia II Penitentiary Center in Campos del Río.

This training takes place through the adult education center (CEPA) 'Río Mula' and the 'Juan Carlos I' Secondary Education Institute, which offer prisoners the opportunity to take formal and non-formal courses aimed at adults.

Councilor Adela Martínez-Cachá Martínez and the Director General of Vocational Training and Special Regimes Teaching, Sergio López, visited the penitentiary this morning, and held a meeting with the director, Felipe Burgos.

At the end, Martinez-Cachá highlighted the work of the teachers who work in the center and stated that "their dedication and initiative are fundamental to improve the training of inmates and to motivate them for their future reintegration into society."

He also pointed out the importance of these lessons, since for many interns, the training received at the center is the first opportunity for literacy that they have been able to receive, and others who entered with a higher level of training allows them to improve their level of skills Or remember what has been learned.

In addition, it allows the obtaining of educational qualifications that facilitate to the prison population the adequate adaptation to its social environment and a successful incorporation to the labor world, both essential for the rehabilitation of this group.

Specifically, the IES Juan Carlos I are enrolled 20 inmates in Adult Baccalaureate, on a distance basis, in order to obtain the corresponding degree.

On the other hand, CEPA Río Mula teaches Initial Basic Education, as well as non-formal teaching such as the preparation of the test to obtain the title of Graduate in Compulsory Secondary Education and courses oriented to facilitate social insertion, such as the courses of Competence Basic and Spanish for Foreigners.

Thus, 26 students attend 'Basic skills development (reading-writing), eight' Initial education for adults', four preparatory course for obtaining a Graduate in ESO and 22 Spanish for foreigners.
